Over 1,400 men and women have completed their training as guides in various cities in Saudi Arabia and are now awaiting for their license to perform their duties as a tour guide.

According to data released by the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTH), there are 668 licensed tour guides while 1,400 more are ready to join the field.

The SCTH said additional guides will boost the tourism sector. Madina Region has the highest number of tour guides, with abundant historical sites.

Under the SCTH, trained guides explain to tourists about the history of these places.

1,400 men and women in various cities have completed their training as guides and are waiting for licenses.

According to the Saudi news agency, significant steps are being taken by the National Committee for Manpower to expand the number of  tour guides to improve the sector and introduce more trained guides to the local market.

The SCTH has said that free refresher courses are offered for newcomer guides, which will provide authentic information regarding various historical sites.

Practical training is provided to the guides in accordance with international principles and in this regard the SCTH is in contact with the World Travel & Tourism Council.

Till the end of last year, 3150 guides, including women, have been trained with the courses.
