At least 16 people have been killed and more than 100 wounded, after a massive explosion from a suicide car bomb attack rocked central Kabul.

According to International News Agency,  a massive explosion from a suicide car bomb attack shook Afghan capital Kabul, leaving at least 16 people dead and more than 100 wounded.

The attack took place in a residential area near Green Village, after which, a nearby fuel station caught fire.

Interior Ministry of Afghanistan has confirmed death of 16 citizens, whereas more than 100 are wounded, who’re being treated in emergency. Death toll is expected to rise, as some of the victims are in a very critical condition.

Gunfire could be heard in the aftermath of the blast along with a secondary explosion when a nearby petrol station caught fire, sending plumes of smoke into the night sky, according to the local media.

Five, who were involved in the second blast were shot by the security forces on the spot, Spokesperson of Interior Ministry Nasrat Rahimi stated.

The attack took place while Afghanistan’s main TV station aired an interview with the US envoy Zalmay Khalilzad, who was discussing a potential deal with the Taliban that would see the US withdraw forces from five bases across Afghanistan.

The attack was claimed by the Taliban’s representative Zabih Ullah Mujahid stating that the armed men and suicide bomber were in contact.
