The US President Donald Trump is being mocked over his threats to attack the cultural sites of Iran.
The US President had given threats to attack the cultural sites of Iran.
Donald Trump mentioned that the troops can attack 52 recognized Iranian targets that are among the cultural sites. He said that they will be attacked if Iranians “torture, maim and blow up our people.”
However, the UK’s foreign secretary and the UN’s cultural organization were among those to indicate that such sites were secured.
Given that the US and Iran have signed agreements not to destroy cultural heritage even during conflicts. It is considered a war crime under international law to attack these places.
Donald Trump said that 52 sites were recognized by the US, some “at a very high level and important to Iran and Iranian culture,” He also warned that these place would be targeted “very fast and hard” if Tehran attack in retaliation.
On the contrary, the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo assured that the decision will be taken as per international law.
But the president said in reply, “They’re allowed to kill our people, they’re allowed to torture and maim our people, they’re allowed to use roadside bombs and blowup our people-we’re not allowed to touch their cultural site? It doesn’t work that way.”
