Nine people were shot at a large party in Syracuse. One victim, a 17-year-old body, was in serious condition.

Syracuse Police Chief Kenton Buckner said that the probe was in its early stages in an appearance at a press conference alongside Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh. No one has been arrested yet.

Buckner said that Syracuse officers went to the scene before 9 pm for reports of a stolen car. However, people at the scene informed them that shots have been fired at a group of a ‘few hundred’ people. The police chief said that his officers did not hear the gunshots.

Syracuse police said in a news release that people shot were aged from 18 to 53. In addition to this, a 17-year-old boy was also shot in his head.

The party’s hostess said to the post-Standard of Syracuse that the birthday of her son was being celebrated. There was never a problem before.

“I’ve had a birthday party for my son every year, and this never happened,” Annetta Peterson said. “This never, ever happened.”

Witnesses informed the newspaper that several hundred people gathered to celebrate the birthday for food and music.

On the other hand, Walsh said that no city permit was given.

“We wouldn’t issue approvals for a gathering of this size,” the mayor said.

“This is our city, and we’re going to do everything we can to protect it,” the mayor said.
