Sources said that over 60% of active cases have been reported from states of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous state.

In addition to this, more than 2,700 cases were recorded in the capital New Delhi, the highest in the city in more than two months.

Furthermore, an increase in Covid-19 infections in various rural areas also caused an increase in numbers.

Moreover, more than 1,000 deaths were reported in India in the last seven days.

Authorities in the country are lifting restrictions to boost the economy, as the economy decreased by 23.9% in the three months to the end of June, the worst slump since the country started releasing quarterly data in 1996.
