An Indian Dalit (untouchable in Sanskrit) woman was gang-raped in India’s Buzar district of Bihar on Monday and her 5-year-old child was killed. Both were thrown in a canal.

According to the Indian police, the seven prime suspects, who allegedly raped the woman have been arrested. The police further revealed that the child had died from drowning.

The woman was shifted to a hospital 135km from Patna, as they could only identify two suspects out of seven.

Police officer KK Sing said,

“The woman’s medical examination is being done. An FIR (First Information Report) has been filed, while one accused has been arrested. The body of the child has been sent for post-mortem.”

It should be mentioned here that on average 87 new rape cases are reported daily in India and 4,05,861 cases of crimes against women were reported during the year.

According to the data released by the National Crime Records Bureau last month, the rape crimes have increased in India by 7% since 2018.
