Despite prior indications that Russia was retreating from most places, Mr Stoltenberg warned of additional pain this afternoon in Brussels. According to Mr. Stoltenberg: “According to our intelligence, Russian forces are relocating rather than retiring. Russia is attempting to reorganise, replenish, and bolster its Donbas onslaught. As a result, we should expect more offensive activities, resulting in even greater pain.” This warning comes only days after Russia’s Defense Ministry stated that the invasion will be scaled back to focus on the “liberation” of the Donbas area.
US target Russia’s tech sector in new sanctions
The United States has imposed further restrictions on Russia’s technological industry.
The Treasury Department issued sanctions against 21 businesses and 12 individuals, including Joint Stock Company Mikron, Russia’s biggest manufacturer and exporter of microelectronics and Russia’s largest chipmaker.
Sanctions have also been extended to the aerospace, maritime, and electronics industries.
The measure is intended to combat “malicious cyber actors,” according to the Treasury.
“We will continue to penalise Putin’s war machine from every angle until this foolish war of choice is ended,” Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said in a statement.
