President Biden joked about his low approval numbers and the Republican “Let’s Go Brandon” campaign targeting him during the first White House Correspondents’ Dinner since 2019 on Saturday evening.

His quips elicited more laughter than others.

“Special thanks to the 42 percent of you that actually applauded,” He joked in front of an audience of 2,000 people.

It involved journalists and celebrities as well.

Biden added, “I’m really excited to be here tonight with the only group of Americans with a lower approval rating than I have.”

He said Republicans “seem to support some guy named Brandon.”

“He’s having a really good year. And I’m happy for him!” he stated.

The president, who is the oldest commander-in-chief in American history at 79, also made a joke about his age.

He pointed out that the inaugural Correspondents Dinner was held in 1924, during Calvin Coolidge’s presidency.

“I’d just been elected to the United States Senate, where I remember telling Cal, just be yourself, get up there and speak from the heart,” he claimed.

“You’re going to be great, kid.”

The president also launched some punches at former President Trump, who is one of his favorite adversaries.

He emphasized that it was the first time in six years that a president had attended the event.

The event was cancelled for the last two years due to the coronavirus, which President Trump did not attend during his presidency.

“It’s understandable,” adding, “We had a horrible plague followed by two years of COVID.”

He joked, clearly referring to Trump as a “plague.”

The audience burst into laughter and applause.
