As the Three Lions prepare to face Germany in Munich, Gareth Southgate has asked England fans not to ’embarrass’ the country, insisting that crowd disturbance has a ‘effect’ on the players.

Almost 3,500 England fans have purchased tickets for Tuesday’s Nations League match at the Allianz Arena, with many more anticipated to arrive without.

The last time England played in Germany, fans were chastised for screaming World War Two anthems, and tomorrow’s match is just a day after the D-Day anniversary.

The FA is wary of the risk of crowd trouble in Germany, having made over 100 arrests during England’s 2018 trip to Amsterdam. They are deploying more stewards and specialized spotters to identify troublemakers.

‘I think we know because of the landscape at the moment, that the attention is going to be on,’ Southgate said when questioned about England fans’ behavior ahead of the team’s journey to Germany.

‘So we all want to be talking about a fantastic night, great football, and a fantastic environment when we leave,’ says  Gareth Southgate. All we can ask is that our fans do so.
