A driver for the World Health Organization in Myanmar was shot dead, according to his employer, who added that the circumstances of the incident were unknown.

Myo Min Htut was killed on Wednesday night in Mawlamyine Township, Mon State, while riding his motorcycle home after work, as per the WHO.

On Facebook, the WHO said, “We are all very grieved by his unfortunate demise and express our sincere condolences to the family of our colleague.”

Since Myanmar’s military launched a coup in February 2021, swaths of the country have been destroyed by deadly conflicts.

As per a local monitoring group, about 2,000 civilians have perished as a result of the subsequent savage crackdown on dissent.

As per the organisation, Myo Min Htut worked as a driver for nearly five years.

Two representatives of the international relief organisation Save the Children were killed in a Christmas Eve massacre of more than 30 people blamed on Myanmar junta troops in December.

Their burned bodies were discovered on a highway in Kayah, a state in the eastern United States.
