On Christmas Eve, an intercity bus crashed in the Canadian province of British Columbia, killing four people and injuring hundreds more.

The car is thought to have rolled over on Saturday near the town of Merritt due to “very slippery road conditions,” according to authorities.

Nearby, at a distance of around 220 miles (360 km) from Victoria, the provincial capital, temperatures had fallen to -3.9C.

David Eby, the provincial premier, expressed shock and sadness over the information.

The first responders and healthcare professionals who are doing their utmost to treat patients and keep them safe are in our thoughts, he said, along with individuals who were affected by the crash, their loved ones, and the first responders.

According to Global News, the coach was headed from Kelowna to Vancouver when it crashed on the Okanagan Connector, a section of Highway 97, shortly after 18:00 (02:00 GMT Sunday).

Health officials report that as a result, 36 people needed treatment and 52 people were admitted to the hospital. Eight patients remained in hospitals as of Sunday afternoon local time, with two of them in critical condition.

Police stated that they were still looking into the incident, which did not involve any other vehicles.

After a train derailed in bad weather on Christmas Day, all rail services between Canada’s two largest cities, Toronto and Montreal, were cancelled.
