Xi’s call for more stable bilateral relations is based on the principles of “mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation.”

This statement comes ahead of a significant visit to Washington by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, scheduled for Thursday through Saturday.

Wang’s visit represents a high-level, in-person engagement in anticipation of a potential meeting between U.S. President Joe Biden and President Xi during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in San Francisco in November.

Several top U.S. officials, including U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, held meetings with their Chinese counterparts in Beijing throughout the summer.

Washington’s primary objective has been to ensure that the intense competition and disagreements between the world’s two largest economies on issues ranging from trade to Taiwan and the South China Sea do not escalate into conflict.

Chinese observers believe that Wang’s visit could lay the groundwork for a potential meeting between the two heads of state.

However, they also emphasize the importance of Washington addressing Beijing’s concerns and demonstrating sincerity in its efforts, as mentioned in a commentary by China’s state-controlled Global Times.
