Donald Trump Jr characterized his father as a “real estate artist,” asserting that the former president was a “genius” capable of transforming nothing into luxury returning to the witness stand in his family’s civil fraud trial in New York.

The younger Trump, testifying for the Trump Organization, aimed to counter prosecutors’ claims that the company inflated valuations to secure favorable loans, putting the Trump real estate empire at risk of being barred from conducting business in New York.

Trump Jr maintained a relaxed, cheerful demeanor, making light remarks and drawing laughs from the courtroom during Monday’s testimony.

Dressed in a dark suit and light lavender tie, the Ivy League graduate traced his journey from bartending in Colorado to becoming an executive at the Trump Organization.

He portrayed the company as a mix of “world-class assets” and a “mom and pop” business, emphasizing its meritocratic operation.

In response to objections from prosecutors about the defense lawyers providing a “script,” Trump Jr quipped about keeping his testimony under six weeks, a playful jab at the state’s lengthy presentation.

Trump Jr elaborated on various Trump properties, from 40 Wall Street to Mar-a-Lago as the defense delved into “the Trump story” and the company’s history.

He challenged appraisers’ assessments of property values and defended his father’s ability to create value in real estate.

Judge Arthur Engoron expressed a willingness to hear the defense’s case while much of the testimony appeared unrelated to the core charges of falsification of business records, insurance fraud, and conspiracy.

The judge had previously ruled that Trump significantly inflated property values. The defense has hinted at filing for a mistrial, alleging bias from the judge and his clerk.

Legal experts suggest that, despite the defense’s efforts, the case may be challenging to salvage after two weeks of damaging testimony from the Trump family.

The trial’s focus on financial statements, spreadsheets, and property valuations may continue into mid-December, setting the stage for a protracted legal battle.
