UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has dismissed Suella Braverman as home secretary following her alleged role in encouraging tensions and racial animosity over Armistice Day protests.
Braverman, known for her hard-right stance, faced criticism for her statements, including claims that the Metropolitan Police favored left-wing pro-Palestinian protesters.
The controversial article she published in The Times, which criticized the police and encouraged far-right groups, reportedly led to her sacking.
Braverman had previously courted controversy with statements such as describing homelessness as a “lifestyle choice” and making contentious remarks on various issues, including immigration, asylum seekers, and multiculturalism.
She advocated anti-immigrant policies despite being born to immigrant parents.
This dismissal marks Braverman’s second exit from the same position in a little over a year, with Liz Truss previously asking her to resign in October 2022 for leaking confidential information.
Braverman has been a divisive figure, facing criticism for her comments on grooming gangs, asylum seekers, and homelessness, among other issues.
It is speculated that Braverman may aim to appeal to the hard-right within the Conservative Party for future leadership aspirations, but her controversial statements may continue to be a point of contention.
