UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has dismissed the Home Secretary Suella Braverman as part of his cabinet reshuffle announced on Monday.

Braverman faced criticism after she authored a newspaper article last week, condemning the Metropolitan Police’s handling of a contentious Armistice Day pro-Palestinian march.

The accusations against Braverman included claims that her actions were undermining public trust in the police and their operational independence, leading to mounting pressure on the prime minister to take decisive action.

Braverman reportedly blamed the police for aligning with leftwing protesters, escalating tensions ahead of Armistice Day protests. She intensified her criticism by drawing comparisons between people attending pro-Palestinian demonstrations and Protestant marches in Northern Ireland.

Braverman’s comments drew widespread criticism from opposition parties and several Tory MPs, who labeled them as “offensive” and “inflammatory.” A former Tory cabinet member characterized her remarks as “wholly offensive” and “ignorant.”

Her previous statement earlier this month, where she referred to homeless people’s tent living as a “lifestyle choice,” further fueled public discontent.

Suella Braverman assumed the role of the UK’s Home Secretary in October 2022, having previously served as the Attorney General from February 2020 to September 2022, according to the UK government.

Before that, she held the position of Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Exiting the European Union from January to November 2018.
