Former Prime Minister Donald Tusk is poised to lead a new government after the failure of incumbent Mateusz Morawiecki to secure a vote of confidence. The October elections saw Tusk’s coalition win a parliamentary majority, while Morawiecki’s Law and Justice Party failed to secure one.

President Andrzej Duda, an ally of the ruling party, nominated Morawiecki, leading to a delay in forming a new government. Tusk, known for his prior role as PM and European Council president, is expected to present his cabinet on Tuesday. The cabinet is focusing on measures to undo the effects of the previous government’s policies.

“We are working… on a whole set of measures that will restore the rule of law as much as possible,” Mr Tusk said.
