The City Court in Karachi on Wednesday sent Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Umair Tariq Bajari on physical remand under police custody in the Orangi Town robbery case.

The alleged incident revolves around DSP Umair Tariq, accused of robbing Rs 2 crore and 70 to 80 tola gold from businessman Shakir Khan’s house in Orangi.

DSP Umair Tariq Bajari was arrested by the Karachi Police West on Tuesday, for his ‘direct involvement’ in the Orangi Town heist.

The case, registered at Pirabad Police Station, also implicates two gunmen, Khurram Ali and Farhan Ali.

During today’s court proceedings, the judge requested a progress report from the investigating officer for the upcoming hearing.

DSP Umair Tariq’s lawyer Aamir Mwattab Advocate stated that his client was not present at the scene during the alleged robbery.

The lawyer emphasized that DSPs are under training, off-duty, and do not have personnel security force except for a personal guard.

In a media talk, Aamir Mwattab Advocate highlighted that neither recovery nor any evidence against his client had been presented.

He argued that the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) had falsely implicated DSP Umair Tariq after conducting an inquiry.

Furthermore, the lawyer contended that the provisions imposed on his client were unnecessary and did not constitute a kidnapping case.

He pointed out that DSP Umair was not present at the scene during the alleged robbery.

Instead, the individuals who conducted the raid and returned money and items to the plaintiff are the ones deserving scrutiny, according to the defense; he added.

The defense further revealed that the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) South and SSP West had sanctioned the raid in Orangi Town.

The Sub-Inspector at the Defense Police Station returned one crore three lakh fifty thousand rupees, a mobile phone, and a laptop, the lawyer said.
