Police arrested 12 employees of LG Polymers after the gas leak at a chemical plant in southern India, killing 12 people.
According to the details, the arrested persons include the South Korean Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company.
“Twelve people, including the CEO and two directors, were arrested on Tuesday evening,” said Meena, a senior police officer in the coastal city of Visakhapatnam where the plant was located.
The officer said the detainees included a South Korean director.
It is to be noted that poisonous styrene gas was released from the chemical plant on the morning of May 7, due to which the sleeping people died due to suffocation.
This week, the government set up a committee to move the plant from a residential area and take action against top company officials.
She said LG Chemicals had failed and its warning system was not working properly.
The company did not respond to a request for comment.
Meena said that 3 government officials were also suspended for negligence.
