PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to set up a forensic agency to expedite the investigation of crimes. The forensic science agency bill was passed in the provincial assembly.
According to details, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has passed a forensic science agency bill in the provincial assembly. The establishment of a forensic agency will speed up the investigation of crimes in the province and help in reaching out to the accused.
The text of the bill states that investigative agencies will assist in the investigation of crimes in pending cases, and documents, materials and equipment used in crimes will be examined under the agency.
According to the text, the investigation includes 7 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 million for the employees for wrongdoing or negligence. The Home Department will present the annual report of the agency in the assembly.
It may be recalled that the first DNA forensic lab was set up in Sindh last year, after which it became the first in the province and the second largest in Pakistan.
Earlier, the Punjab Forensic Agency in Lahore was the only laboratory in Pakistan with a DNA forensic facility.
Note that earlier samples were sent to Punjab Forensic Agency for forensic tests in Pakistan.
