David Chapelle controversy: Netflix employees press charges against the company

Amid the ongoing David Chapelle controversy, two employees of Netflix pressed charges against the company for retaliating against them after they engaged in a protected activity.

The employees include B Pagels-Minor, a Black trans who was laid off for organizing a walkout protest against the company for remaining quite on David Chapelle’s transphobic comedy in ‘The Closer’. Terra Field, on the other hand, was suspended for posting tweets regarding the issue on her social media account.

The company in its defense, said it fired Minor for leaking confidential information of the company, and suspended Field for attending a top-management meeting, she wasn’t supposed to.

The company employees are raising their voice and pressing charges with the union National Labor Relations Board, claiming that Netflix is not providing better working conditions to its employees and shushing them for speaking against the work environment.

However, the company, in an email to The Verge stated, “We recognize the hurt and pain caused to our trans colleagues over the last few weeks. But we want to make clear that Netflix has not taken any action against employees for either speaking up or walking out.”
