ISLAMABAD: The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI)-based inflation for the week ended December 2, 2021 for the combined consumption group, witnessed a decrease of 0.48 per cent, compared with the previous week, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported.

The SPI for the week under review in the abovementioned group was recorded at 167.36 points against 168.16 points registered in the previous week, according to the data.

The food commodities that contributed in the decline in the weekly inflation included tomatoes, the prices of which decreased 16.57 per cent.

Other food commodities that witnessed a decline in prices included onions (7.74 per cent), chicken (7.68 per cent), LPG (2.43 per cent), sugar (1.51 per cent), eggs (1.43 per cent), chilies powdered (0.88 per cent), potatoes (0.67 per cent), wheat flour (0.58 per cent), gur (0.45 per cent) and garlic (0.29 per cent).

On a year-on-year basis, the commodities that witnessed a decrease in prices included onions (37.63 per cent), pulse moong (26.88 per cent), potatoes (20.08 per cent), tomatoes (17.45 per cent) and chicken (2.05 per cent).

Meanwhile, the commodities that witnessed increase on a weekly basis, included bananas (3.82 per cent), pulse masoor (2.60 per cent), pulse mash (2.26 per cent), pulse moong (2.10 per cent), cooking oil 5 litres (1.95 per cent), washing soap (1.80 per cent) and vegetable ghee 1kg (1.44 per cent).

The items that witnessed increase in prices on a YoY basis included electricity for the first quarter (75.32 per cent), LPG (70.10 per cent), cooking oil 5 litres (60.53 per cent), vegetable ghee 1kg (58.45 per cent), mustard oil (56.73 per cent), vegetable ghee 2.5kg (56.53 per cent), petrol (44.35 per cent), washing soap (43.51 per cent), diesel (34.93 per cent), gents sandal (33.37 per cent) and chilies powdered (33 per cent).

Meanwhile, the SPI for the combined consumption group in the week under review witnessed an increase of 18.35 per cent.

The weekly SPI with base year 2015/16=100 is covering 17 urban centres and 51 essential items for all expenditure groups.

The Sensitive Price Indicator for the lowest consumption group up to Rs17,732 witnessed 0.47 per cent decrease as it went down to 176.77 points this week from 177.60 points last week.

The SPI for the consumption groups from Rs17,732 to Rs22,888; Rs22,889 to Rs29,517; Rs29,518 to Rs44,175 and above Rs44,175 also decreased 0.50 per cent, 0.47 per cent, 0.48 per cent and 0.47 per cent, respectively.

During the week, of the 51 items, prices of 21 (41.18 per cent) increased, 11 (21.57 per cent) items prices decreased and the prices of 19 items (37.25 per cent) remained unchanged.
