Military authorities reported ten troops were killed and unknown others were injured in a roadside bomb in Somalia’s southern region early Saturday.

According to the Somali National Army (SNA) Radio, the event occurred when a convoy of military trucks carrying troops ran over an improvised explosive device positioned on the route between the districts of Balad and Jowhar by al-Shabab militants.

“A convoy of military trucks from Mogadishu, commanded by Saney Abdulle (senior military), was on its way to Jowhar when the event occurred some minutes after midnight,” according to SNA radio.

Al-Shabab, an al-Qaida-affiliated terrorist group, claimed responsibility for the latest attack in Somalia. Al-Shabab extremists opposed to the ongoing voting process have launched a series of assaults aimed at delegates in an attempt to sabotage the process.
