Following a complaint of a trespassing individual on parole for organized criminal activities, Houston police officers were sent. The Houston Police Department has released body camera footage from an April 9 officer-involved shooting.
At around 5:45 p.m. on April 9, police officers were summoned to 729 West Mount Houston Road after receiving information that a man suspect was trespassing and was known to carry guns.
According to the police department, Richard Nichols, 48, had a parole breach for “organized criminal activities.” Officers spotted Nichols in a tiny room within the shop and gave him numerous verbal directions to put his hands up, which he disobeyed, according to police.
“For what?” Nichols said, standing up and reaching over to the desk he was sitting next to.
Three police officers then opened fire, striking Nichols many times. At a neighboring hospital, Nichols was declared dead.
The Houston Police Department is investigating the incident.
