The California man accused of barging onstage at the Hollywood Bowl and attacking comedian Dave Chappelle was in court Friday morning to face charges. Isaiah Lee pleaded not guilty and was released on a $30,000 bond. During his court appearance, Lee wore a sling and had his arm bandaged. His next court appearance is set for May 20.

Lee must also keep 100 yards away from Chappelle’s home, any venue where he performs, and the Hollywood Bowl in particular, according to the judge. Lee, 23, was charged with felony assault with a dangerous weapon after rushing the stage during Chappelle’s stand-up act at the Netflix Is A JokeFestival on Tuesday night.

The comic had barely finished his act when Lee “jumped onto the stage and tackled the comedian to the ground,” according to the Los Angeles Police Department. “He then produced what was subsequently determined to be an imitation firearm and aimed it towards the victim,” according to Lee. According to authorities, Lee was caught in possession of a fake black pistol with a knife attached at the time.

However, Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer said on Thursday that the charges had been reduced to misdemeanors. Lee was charged with violence, assault with a weapon, unlawful entrance to the stage area during a performance, and commission of an act that delays an event or interferes with a performer instead of the crime.

“This alleged attack needs to have repercussions,” Feuer said as he announced his office’s decision to prosecute Lee with misdemeanors. “My office takes public safety very seriously, and we are going to pursue this case aggressively.”

Lee is described as a Black guy with black hair and brown eyes, standing 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing around 140 pounds, according to jail documents. He was being imprisoned at the Los Angeles Twin Towers Correctional Facility. Lee was classified as a rapper by the New York Post. A search on Instagram turned up someone named Isaiah Lee, who appeared to go by the pseudonym “Noname trapper” and matched the suspect’s physical description.

The user wore the same sweater as the suspect in later photographs following his arrest in an Instagram story uploaded earlier Tuesday. He was wearing his hair up, a hood over his head, and a bloody nose and horns filter on his Instagram story.

A YouTube search for “Noname trapper” yielded dozens of rap songs, including one in which a guy stands on top of what looks to be a police vehicle, flashing the middle finger.
