A source close to Amber Heard’s camp informed that her team plans to summon actress Ellen Barkin as a defense witness in her ex-husband Johnny Depp’s defamation action against Heard.

Barkin, 68, dated Depp, 58, briefly in 1997 while they were filming “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.”

It’s not the first time Barkin has come up about their failed romance. After Depp’s defamation suit against The Sun tabloid in 2020, Barkin claimed that Depp flung a wine bottle across a hotel room during an altercation with his employees. She stated that it did not strike anyone. Depp lost the lawsuit in the United Kingdom.

Barkin is due to appear by video at the Fairfax County Circuit Courthouse in Virginia, which Depp’s side has dismissed as a disgruntled former lover. She has developed a friendship with Heard.

The “Ocean’s Thirteen” actress was the fourth wife of billionaire banker Ron Perelman – but the two had a contentious divorce, with him accusing her of misappropriating assets during their breakup.

Last Monday, Heard’s defense case began. The 36-year-old took the stand, crying as she revealed alleged physical and sexual abuse by Depp, including a claim that he raped her with a liquor bottle in Australia in 2015.

According to a fan who uploaded a picture of Depp on Twitter with the caption “Spotted in Newhaven, East Sussex yesterday, #JohnnyDepp,” the trial went dark this week for a pre-scheduled break, with Depp jetting off to England.

He’s in Europe resting with friends, playing music, and going on walks in the countryside, without confirming the actor’s presence in the coastal town two hours south of London.

Heard will return to the witness stand on Monday. Following the conclusion of her testimony, her attorneys, Elaine Bredehoft and Ben Rottenborn will summon Barkin, Heard’s sister Whitney Henriquez, and Depp – but not necessarily in that sequence.

Although Depp has previously testified for four days, his ex-appearance wife’s on the stand has allowed her team to challenge him on areas they were not able to raise during his cross-examination, according to the Heard source. Henriquez stayed in one of Depp’s penthouses in Los Angeles and testified in the UK trial that she saw bruises on her sister’s face early in the couple’s relationship.

According to the Heard source, the two most prominent prospective defense witnesses will not appear in court: actors James Franco and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Depp has accused both men of having relationships with his then-wife, which they have both denied publicly.

Depp is suing Heard for $50 million in retaliation for an op-ed she published in the Washington Post in 2018 in which she identified herself as “a public figure representing domestic abuse.”

According to the “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor, she damaged his reputation and career. Heard is suing Depp for $100 million, claiming that he defamed her by labeling her assault accusations a “hoax.”
