Los Angeles, California Rita Moreno, a veteran performer, has joined the cast of the forthcoming ‘Fast and Furious’ film. In the tenth instalment, named ‘Fast X,’ the 90-year-old actor will play the grandmother of the franchise’s main character Dominic Toretto, played by Hollywood icon Vin Diesel.
Moreno’s hiring was announced in a video message in which Diesel appeared with the legendary actor and his co-star Michelle Rodriguez.
As Diesel said, sitting between Moreno and Rodriguez, “It’s been my dream forever to work with Rita Moreno, and the fact that she’s here playing my grandmother makes my soul smile. I’m so blessed.”
He added, “You know what, I think I was getting… I think my old age was waiting for you to invite me. Isn’t that nice? The answer is yes, I’ll do it. And yes, not only do it, but I’m tickled. I’m tickled to hell to do it. I’m so thrilled. It’s going to be such fun!”
Diesel told Variety last year that he wants to cast Moreno as his grandma in the long-running action franchise.
Moreno joins Brie Larson and Jason Momoa as newbies to the group, which also includes Tyres Gibson, Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges, and Sung Kang.
Louis Leterrier is poised to direct ‘Fast X,’ succeeding Justin Lin, who left the project only days after it began shooting.
The film will be released on May 19, 2023.
