PESHAWAR: Pakistan Army have launched a rescue and relief operation at Tanda Dam in district Kohat of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said a relief and rescue operation is ongoing since the last three days.
It added that Pakistan army troops along with Rescue 1122 and civil administration are working constantly day and night since 72 hours in the rescue operation and rescued 5 students alive from Tanda Dam
Furthermore, Pakistan army engineers and divers of SSG recovered 51 deceased students and teachers from Tanda Dam.
The five rescued students have been shifted to District Hospital Kohat while search for one missing individual is ongoing.
It must be mentioned that dozens of seminary students drowned in the Tanda Dam due to a boat capsize on Sunday.
According to Kohat District Police, at least 46 children were riding on the boat during a field trip when it overturned in the middle of the lake apparently due to overloading.
The police said the children, aged between 5 and 15 years, did not have any safety gadgets or lifesaving jackets on the boat.
Rescue 1122 teams, police, civil administration and Pakistan Army divers reached the spot soon after the incident and fished out ten bodies.
The rescue operation was suspended on Sunday evening due to cold and darkness, and resumed on Monday morning.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister Khushdil Khan, who supervised the rescue operation on Monday, said the operation would continue till the recovery of all dead bodies.
Police lodged a first information report against high officials of the Irrigation Department, including its Chief Engineer, XEN, SDO and sub-engineer, and the boat owner. However, no one was arrested till the filing of report.
