Shoaib Akhtar, a former speedster, may be hired by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to serve as the team’s bowling coach.

The fastest bowler in the world may be handed a crucial role in the coming days, according to insiders.

According to sources, the former fast-bowler has already been approached and has expressed interest in helping to raise the level of play among the players.

Akhtar will shortly visit Najam Sethi, the head of the PCB Management Committee, in Lahore, where he most likely would be given a position on the board.

Sources further stated that Akhtar had expressed interest in enhancing the board’s policy-making process.

After retiring from cricket, the Rawalpindi Express raised his voice multiple times in support of the Pakistani team.

After the 2011 World Cup, the former right-armer announced his retirement from international cricket.

Despite not having the cleanest of actions, the “Rawalpindi Express” broke onto the scene as the fastest bowler of his time.

His long run up — and he defied many a coach to keep it up — and the albatross-like celebration after every dismissal made him a spectator’s delight, but his temperament frequently caused issues for club management.

Ball-tampering claims, a slew of disciplinary difficulties, punching teammate Mohammad Asif with a bat in 2007, doping suspicions, and a slew of other controversies and injuries kept him from focusing entirely on his career.

Since making his debut against the West Indies in 1997, the fast bowler has played in just 46 Test matches, taking 178 wickets, and he was thought to be weak against the longer form of the game.

He participated in 163 one-day internationals and claimed 247 wickets, making him more consistent in shorter formats.
