Punjab Educational Boards Revamp Matric Exam Language to Boost English Proficiency.

In a significant move aimed at enhancing students’ English skills and aligning educational standards with global benchmarks, educational boards across Punjab have decided to conduct matriculation exams in English for both science and arts streams, beginning in 2025.

Under this new policy, Urdu will gradually be phased out from question papers to establish a uniform language medium across all subjects. Additionally, starting in 2026, all optional subjects for FA exams will also be conducted in English.

While formal approval for this policy is pending, educational authorities are optimistic that it will be ratified during the upcoming Punjab Boards Committee Chairmen (PBCC) meeting.

However, concerns have been raised by Rana Liaqat Ali, the General Secretary of the Punjab Teachers Union, regarding potential challenges associated with the language transition. He emphasized the importance of providing teachers with adequate training to facilitate a smooth transition and minimize student failure rates resulting from language barriers.
