
Syngenta Pakistan successfully pilots drone spraying services for local farmers
LAHORE: Syngenta Pakistan Limited, a leading agriculture innovation and technology company — providing crop protection, biological seeds, crop enhancement products and digital services to millions of Pakistani farmers, has successfully piloted drone spraying services on approximately 5,000 acres of local farmland, a statement said.
This is a first-of-its-kind initiative; whereby, such precision drone spray services have been provided by a crop protection company in Pakistan, it added.
The drone spraying services are being used globally for application of crop protection products, as this technology offers precision, uniformity in spray, effective pest and disease control and speed in-farm operations.
Extending this service to the farmers is in line with Syngenta Pakistan’s farmer-centric vision: “One Team, One Dream, Farmer Future” to transform the agricultural practices in the country and to catalyse the progress on making Pakistan’s agriculture sector more robust and technology-enabled.
Syngenta Pakistan General Manager Zeeshan Haseeb Baig said that “labour availability and correct technique to spray are the contributors to our low yield in Pakistan. The drone spray technology helps enable the farmers achieve effective pest control and farm-level efficiency.”
“Syngenta understands the need to make this service available to its growers at their doorstep. The project is directly in line with Syngenta’s farmer-centric vision of building the new farming ecosystem,” he added.
The farmers have highly appreciated this initiative.
Ghulam Abbas from Tehsil Athaara Hazari, District Jhang, said: “My farm size is 125 acres, of which 50 acres is sugarcane. Every year, my crop gets infested with pyrilla and white fly. This year, Syngenta has provided me the drone spray services. As a result of uniform drone spray, my sugarcane crop is much healthier. Previously, we used to worry a lot about pest attack control but this year due to drone spray my crop is standing in very good health. We thank Syngenta and also request the drone spray service to be provided to us for the upcoming years.”
