When the cold winds of winter start to blow, shops and stalls selling dry fruits including peanuts, roasted black gram, boiled eggs, Kashmiri pink tea, soup, chicken broth, roasted fish, and samosas increase in every nook and corner of Karachi. Temporary stalls and carts selling soups crop up all over the city in streets, markets and intersections. Karachiites irrespective of social status throng to these stalls for who doesn’t love a bowl of chicken soup for they know that a piping hot bowl of soup not only satiate their hunger but at the same time it can be the most delicious yet easy cure for cold and flu virus. While the rich go for cashews, almonds and pistachios, the poor lot rush for roasted peanuts and boiled eggs.
