The Lok Mela

The Lok Mela is a folk festival for art and music lovers to experience a unique culture. It is an opportunity for master artisans, folk artists and folk musicians from all over Pakistan to demonstrate their skills and have their talent recognised by art and culture enthusiasts at a national level. The festive also gives deserving artists a chance to work for themselves and sell their products under the guidance of experienced artisans. Around 500 artisans, artists and folk musicians from across the country are participating in this Mela. The National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa), which was established in 1974, organized this annual mega event. It undertook the responsibilities of research, collection, documentation, communication, preservation and promotion of tangible and in-tangible heritage of Pakistan.
