Lieutenant General (Retired) Asim Saleem Bajwa is appointed as the Special Assistant to the PM Imran Khan for Information and Broadcasting.
Prior to his retirement, Lt. Gen. (retd) Asim Saleem Bajwa held other important positions including Director General Inter Service Public Relations (DG ISPR) from 2012 to 2016, on 11 December 2016 he was appointed as Inspector General Arms at GHQ later he held charge of Commander Southern Command & XII Corps (Pakistan) in September 2017.
In November last year after his retirement, the federal government appointed Asim Bajwa head of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority.
He was commissioned in the 34th Punjab Regiment in 1984, at the Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) in Kakul and graduated from the Command and Staff College in Quetta, as well as the National Defence University (NDU) in Islamabad, followed by the Staff College, Camberley.
Asim Bajwa also holds master’s degrees in war studies from NDU and defense studies from King’s College London.
He has served on multiple instructional and command-level posts during his military career, including leading an anti-tank battalion, the 111th Infantry Brigade, and He has also served as a brigade major at an infantry brigade and served as Chief of Staff at a strike Corps. He was promoted to the rank of a major-general in December 2010.
PM Imran has also appointed senator Shibli Faraz as Federal Information Minister.
