Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Zulfiqar Bukhari has announced that pensions will be delivered to the elderly at home from September 1.

Addressing a press conference along with Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry on Saturday, Bukhari said that Rs30 billion were collected for the EOBI during the last three months.

He was speaking to the press after inaugurating the field office of the Employees Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) in Pind Dadan Khan.

“Now, anyone who does work could get himself registered with the EOBI to get benefits,” he said.

“Now even the freelance journalists, women, and labourers can be registered with EOBI.”

He added a summary in this regard had been sent to the Ministry of Law and Justice for approval.

Chaudhry added that the prime minister was all for the welfare of the poor. “We have fulfilled the promises made in the elections and there is no leader like Imran Khan,” he stated.

Last month, the EOBI had announced it was kick-starting an inter-bank funds transfer facility for its registered employers in a bid to ease transactions.

Furthermore, in a statement, the EOBI said: “EOBI aims to ease the process of contribution collection and pension disbursement by all possible means.”

EOBI was formed in 1976, to provide pension, old-age benefits and social insurance to registered employees.
