The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has decided to close two inquiries pending for two decades against PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.

According to the details, the bureau has submitted its report in the Lahore High Court. NAB Lahore Director-General Shahzad Saleem was present in court when the prosecutor submitted a report about the closure of inquiries of assets beyond means and illegal appointments against Shujaat and Pervaiz.

The prosecutor said the inquiries have been closed for want of evidence. The Anti-graft body had already dropped another inquiry against the two political leaders on charges of loan default.

Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan, while heading the bench disposed of the petitions filed by the Chaudhry brothers alleging accountability watchdog had been used for political engineering.

However, during proceedings, NAB Lahore Director General Saleem Shahzad told the court that the bureau has closed an illegal appointments inquiry against Elahi while the ongoing assets beyond means investigation against both petitioners will be completed in six months.

The court questioned that “How do you start an investigation against a person who pays all his taxes and declares his assets?”

The court was told that the investigation against the Chaudhry brothers would be completed in six months. But the Court has ordered to complete the investigation within four weeks.
