The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday refused to issue production orders for Opposition Leader in Sindh Assembly and Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf MPA Haleem Adil Sheikh, in connection with the upcoming Senate elections.

According to the details, the matter of production orders for Haleem Adil Sheikh was forwarded to the ECP by the Election Commission of Sindh, after a plea was submitted in Sindh Assembly secretariat.

The ECP after reviewing the matter decided against issuing production orders for Haleem Adil.

The ECP has appointed a regional election officer, who will meet imprisoned ruling party PTI leader Haleem Adil Sheikh and will confirm his position as an endorser for the Senate candidate.

It should be mentioned here that Sheikh was detained by police on Tuesday after incidents of violence marred the ongoing PS-88 by-polls.

On the same day, the detained PTI leader had claimed that his vehicle was shot at during his visit to Karachi’s Malir PS-88 polling station where by-elections are taking place.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) also filed a complaint against the PTI leader to the Election Commission of Pakistan for roaming in the polling area with “armed persons and harassing the voters”.

The complaint stated that “Haleem Adil Sheikh being a member of Sindh Assembly is not permitted under the Law to enter the constituency and that too with armed persons. He has been reported to have entered with armed persons in polling stations nos. 20 and 22 of Bhitai Abad”.
