Senior leader Nehal Hashmi, who was expelled from the PML-N for making threatening speeches and violating the party’s code of conduct, has been reinstated.

Nehal Hashmi submitted an affidavit to the party leadership abiding by party discipline and rules and after submitting the affidavit, Nehal Hashmi’s party membership was restored.

PML-N Secretary General Ahsan Iqbal issued a notification to reinstate Nehal Hashmi.

A statement issued by the PML-N said that Nehal Hashmi’s membership would be restored immediately if he did not violate party discipline in the future.

It may be recalled that in June 2017, Senator Nehal Hashmi was expelled from the party on the issue of threatening speech on the recommendation of the then ruling party PML-N’s disciplinary committee.

On May 31, 2017, a video of Nehal Hashmi surfaced in which the PMN-L senator was seen threatening during his fiery speech that ‘the ground will be narrowed for those who hold the elected Prime Minister of Pakistan accountable’.

After Senator Nehal Hashmi’s irresponsible and threatening speech, the then Prime Minister and PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif took notice and suspended Nehal Hashmi’s main party membership, while the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Maryam Aurangzeb had confirmed that the party had also demanded her resignation from the Senate.

It may be recalled that the then Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Mian Saqib Nisar also took notice of Nehal Hashmi‘s threatening speech and directed to send the matter to the Panama Case Implementation Bench.
