Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan is of utmost importance for Pakistan and the region adding that Pakistan and China are important strategic partners.
He expressed these views in a telephone conversation with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.
The two Foreign Ministers discussed in detail the changing situation in Afghanistan.
The Foreign Minister said that Pakistan strongly supported the Afghan peace process.
He briefed his Chinese counterpart on the meeting of the National Security Committee chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan and said that in the current situation, it is imperative that the Afghan people and their rights be protected.
The Foreign Minister stressed the need for a comprehensive political settlement of Afghanistan, for which all Afghans must work together.
The Foreign Minister said that the continued support of the Afghan people by the international community was essential.
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi stressed the need for the international community to maintain its continued economic support to Afghanistan.
He also informed about Pakistan’s efforts for evacuation.
The Foreign Minister said that Pakistan and China have brotherly relations and are important strategic partners.
He further said that there is a tradition of close contact and coordination between the two countries on issues of common interest.
The Chinese Foreign Minister was briefed on the details of his forthcoming visits to seek a regional consensus on the evolving situation in Afghanistan.
