All culprits involved in Sialkot tragedy arrested: Fawad

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said on Tuesday that the Sialkot incident was condemned across the country and all the accused involved have been arrested.

The minister said this during a meeting with Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Pakistan Mohan Vijay Vikrama.

The minister expressed profound regret over the incident and informed the High Commissioner about the steps taken by the government after the tragedy.

The high commissioner said the Sri Lankan government was satisfied with the steps being taken by the government of Pakistan and this tragic incident would not affect the relations between the two countries.

Earlier, a meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the chair in Islamabad has decided to implement a comprehensive strategy to curb Sialkot-like incidents and ensure strict punishments to all the perpetrators.

The prime minister chaired the meeting to review the overall security situation in the country wherein the participants said that individuals and mobs could not be allowed to take the law into their hands.

The meeting was attended by Information Minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Jawed Bajwa, National Security Advisor Dr Moeed Yousaf, Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar and senior military and civil officers.

The meeting expressed serious concern over the cruel act of the killing of Sri Lankan national Priyantha Diyawadanage in Sialkot and expressed the resolve to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The meeting also praised the bravery and courage of Malik Adnan who put his own life at risk to save Priyantha Diyawadanage.

The meeting also conveyed the deepest condolences to the family of late Priyantha Diyawadanage.
