Amer Ahmed Hashmi and Masroor Ahmed Qureshi illegal appointments: STZA case latest updates, NAB completes verification process of application

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has started the investigation of the irregular appointments of Chairman Amer Ahmed Hashmi, COO Masroor Ahmed Qureshi, Chief Human Resource Talha Rao, CIO Abdul Rahim Ahmed, Director Planning Hamza Saeed, Director Policy Muhammad Ali, and Iqra Musaddaq in the Special Technology Zone Authority (STZA).

The probe will focus on errant appointments in the authority carried out in violation of merit and rules and regulations.
Rawalpindi NAB has also completed verification of the application submitted for investigation of the matter.

Following this, Rawalpindi NAB DG forwarded the application to the investigation cell.
NAB Chairman Javed Iqbal had tasked the NAB Rawalpindi DG to probe into irregular appointments in STZA.

As per the complaints received by NAB, the errant appointments caused damage worth billions of rupees to the national exchequer.
The officials under probe will not be able to leave the country and could neither be deployed at any post until the investigation is over.

Earlier, Islamabad High Court (IHC) had heard the case regarding illegal appointments in STZA.
The court had summoned reports from the secretary establishment, STZA chairman, and principal secretary of the prime minister.

The bench had asked under which law the authority was formed.
The petitioner’s lawyer said STZA was formed under the 2021 Act. He maintained that all laws were violated in the appointments.

He said that Talha Rao was illegitimately deployed as the chief human resource officer. He added that Chief Human Resource Talha Rao, CIO Abdul Rahim Ahmed, Director Planning Hamza Saeed, Director Policy Muhammad Ali, and Iqra Musaddaq.
