Court postpones indictment of PM Shehbaz, Hamza in money laundering case

LAHORE: The court summoned the lawyers on May 21 for discussion and indictment of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, his son Hamza Shahbaz and other accused in a money laundering case.

The money laundering case against Shahbaz Sharif and Hamza Shahbaz was heard in Special Court Central Lahore.

Apart from Shahbaz Sharif, other accused appeared before the court.

PM Shehbaz has filed a petition through his lawyer, Amjad Pervez seeking an exemption from personal appearance in the case.

Shehbaz Sharif could not appear in court because he was in London for a private medical checkup, according to the plea.

He requested the court to exclude him from appearing in person.

Shehbaz Sharif was later exempted from personal appearance in the money laundering case, and the hearing was postponed until May 21.

According to the FIA, Shehbaz and his family are accused of laundering billions of rupees through the accounts of their sugar mills and employees.

Earlier this week, Muhammad Rizwan, the former head of the Federal Investigating Agency (FIA) in Lahore, who was leading the investigation into Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Sharif’s money laundering case, died of a heart attack.

After suffering a major heart attack, the former FIA Director was transported to the Services Hospital in Lahore, where he died during his treatment.

He was the Director of FIA Punjab Zone I, and he was leading a team investigating graft allegations against Shehbaz Sharif.
