LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Sirajul Haq has said the establishment and political parties had used each other in the past.

“Establishment should stay away from politics and political parties must avoid dragging the forces into political matters,” he said while addressing the Islamic Lawyers Movement central Punjab chapter at Mansoora on Saturday.

Siraj asked the lawyers to expedite struggle for the rule of law. The lawyer community, he added, should become the voice of the deprived class who could not get justice throughout life. The legal fraternity’s role to ensure basic human rights and facilities to the masses was of key importance, he said, adding that the majority of the people of Pakistan were deprived of both and lawyers must play their part to ensure provision of basic rights to the people.

He said there was hardly an example in the country when rulers and elite classes made a surrender before the constitution and law. Rather, he said, rulers made efforts to stand above the constitution. This must end now, he said.

The JI chief said the three political parties (PML-N, PPP and the PTI) were sides of the same coin. The inflation was all time high and the government seemed unconcerned. The IMF, he said, was virtually controlling the economy and issuing direction to the government.

He said the economy could not strengthen if the government kept reliance on the lending agencies. He said the government should eliminate riba and introduce Islamic model of economy to put the country on track.

He urged the political parties to start dialogue for electoral reforms. “The political parties should show seriousness to end the divide as polarisation in the society had reached the dangerous level,” he said.

He said the JI was never the part of politics of interests and vulgar culture introduced by some political parties. The JI wanted to transform Pakistan into an Islamic welfare state, he added.
