LAHORE: A special central court on Saturday heard the money laundering case against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shehbaz.

Both the prime minister and his son did not appear before the court which is set to indict them in the corruption case. Their lawyer Amjad Pervaiz submitted an application seeking a one day exemption from court appearance.

The lawyer submitted Hamza Shehbaz’s health report citing his inability to appear in court due to severe backache. He further added that PM Shehbaz Sharif was busy in official meetings in Islamabad and could not appear in court. He said the prime minister was stopped from traveling at night due to bad light.

The counsel for the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) said there were no objections on granting the exemption. The court eventually approved the plea and granted absence from personal appearance.

However, the court summoned both PML-N leaders to appear during the next hearing on September 7. The court is expected to indict them in the mega-corruption case.

The prosecutors also submitted the property details of accused Suleman Shehbaz. He said the details of assets have been received from several institutions while others are awaited.

According to the FIA, Shehbaz Sharif and his family are facing charges of money laundering of billions of rupees using accounts of their sugar mills and employees.
