Court adjourns money laundering reference against Shehbaz Sharif till Dec 15

• Witness Tajumal Islam told the court, “I am performing my duties as an operation manager in a private bank, the element of money laundering against Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza did not come up.”

LAHORE: An Accountability Court Lahore heard the money laundering reference against Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shehbaz on Friday.

Judge Qamar-ul-Zaman of Accountability Court No. 9 heard the case.

During the hearing, Amjad Parvez Advocate completed the cross-examination of the witness, the witness Tajumal Islam gave a clean chit to Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shehbaz.

The witness produced the bank account records of Good Nature and Unitas Steel Companies.

Witness Tajumal Islam told the court, “I am performing my duties as an operation manager in a private bank, the element of money laundering against Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza did not come up.”

The witness stated before the court that the accused are not related to Good Nature Company and Unitas Steel Mills. Accounts of Unitas Steel and Good Nature Company were not used for money laundering.

Hamza Shehbaz did not appear in the accountability court, the lawyers submitted a request to excuse the attendance of Hamza Shehbaz and stated that he has back pain.

The Accountability Court judge accepted Hamza Shehbaz’s request for  one-day attendance exemption and sought a response from NAB on the request for a permanent exemption from attendance.

Hamza Shehbaz also filed an application for permanent attendance exemption, in which it was said that Hamza Shehbaz is the leader of the opposition in the Punjab Assembly and cannot appear in the court of official engagements.

On behalf of Hamza Shehbaz, it was also submitted that he is ready to appoint a pleader to appear on the behalf of accused in court.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has been exempted from permanent attendance by the court. In place of Shahbaz Sharif, his pleader Anwar Hussain appeared for attendance.
