LAHORE: Imran Khan, Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) Chairman, on Sunday said if they came back into power, they would hold those accountable who consider themselves above the law, Bol News reported.
Talking to a delegation of Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE) at his Zaman Park residence in Lahore, Imran Khan said assemblies would be dissolved, come what may, and it was a test of “neutrals” now.
“As I exposed everyone on April 9, by announcing to dissolve the assemblies, I want to see who is going to put hurdles before the constitution. Constitutionally, holding elections in abeyance is not possible. However, if the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) and Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) do so, then it will not be possible without support of the establishment,” he said adding that he did not have a personal grudge against General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa.
He warned that the country would go into default, if the elections were not held and if the country defaulted then it would regress. They would realize, when 66 per cent of the country would go into elections, he said.
Imran Khan said when Bajwa removed Faiz Hameed, he knew that the plan to bring down his government had been made. “I called Bajwa and told him that if the plan to overthrow his government has been made, then nobody could control the economy,” he said.
He said he tried his best to make Bajwa understand that Shehbaz Sharif was involved in cases of corruption worth Rs16 billion, so how he could be brought into the power. Nevertheless, he said, it made him realize that corruption was not an issue for them.
The former prime minister said Pakistan’s economy would have been better, if coronavirus would not have come into China.
He said Bajwa would ask him to improve the economy and make Abdul Aleem Khan chief minister. “I told him about Aleem Khan’s illegal work and asked how I could make him the CM,” he maintained.
The PTI chief said he told Bajwa that if 10-12 big corrupt people were arrested, it would set the system. “Justice cannot be done without holding the powerful accountable,” he said.
