Earlier, the ECP rejected a petition filed by the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) and announced to hold the LG polls in Karachi and Hyderabad on January 15 as per schedule.

A three-member commission under the chairmanship of the Chief Election Commissioner announced the reserved decision while rejecting MQM’s plea to postpone the polls.

The electoral body has said that the polls in Karachi and Hyderabad will be held on January 15 on previous voter lists and rejected MQM’s objections on the lists.

The Election Commission reserved the verdict on the reference filed by the MQM about dual electoral lists. The CEC said that local elections in Karachi could not be postponed anymore. The party has decided to protest against the decision on Wednesday (tomorrow).
