Court grants interim bail to woman for slapping DSP

• The woman was granted bail in a case for slapping a DSP

KARACHI: A local court granted interim bail to a woman in a case related to slapping Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) on duty.

Additional Sessions Judge South heard the case in which the accused Dr Anam obtained bail from the court till February 8.

The judge approved the request to submit interim on the submission of a surety bond of Rs100,000. The judge also ordered the accused to cooperate with the police investigation.

Police said that the woman’s arrest had been deferred after she sent the court orders to the investigating officer (IO) regarding the interim bail.

DSP Traffic Ishtiaq Hussain apprised the court about the woman’s attitude and for calling him a ‘servant’. The policeman replied that he is the servant of law-abiding citizens.

He said the woman tried to threaten him for severe consequences by stating that her brother is a Pakistan Navy commander. He said the woman later slapped him in public.

The incident happened earlier this week when a woman slapped a DSP for stopping her car at a busy traffic section near PIDC.

A video of the incident went viral and a case was registered against the woman for manhandling the police officer at the Civil Lines police station.

According to police, the car in which the woman was a passenger turned towards Sultanabad from the PIDC signal when they were stopped.

The woman can be seen outside her car trying to shove the policemen out of the way so that her vehicle could move forward. After the policeman refuses to move, she assaults him and threatens him with dire consequences.

The video shows the policemen exhibiting restraint despite the aggressive behaviour of the woman. Those present at the scene intervened after which the woman got in her car and drove away.
