ABBOTTABAD: At least ten people including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) tehsil nazim Atif Munsif Khan were killed in a targeted gun attack.

The incident occurred after unidentified armed men started firing on a vehicle that caught fire and exploded. As a result, at least ten people including Tehsil Nazim Havelian Atif Munsif Khan were killed.

The assailants fired a rocket launcher after which the vehicle caught fire. According to the police, four security guards and three other workers were killed in the attack.

SSP Abbottabad Syed Mukhtar Shah said the vehicles were set on fire after heavy firing by unknown assailants and 10 people were killed.

He said the bodies were completely burnt beyond recognition and were shifted to DHQ Hospital for identification.

He said police is investigating the incident but cannot provide any details. He said police has cordoned off the area and started the search for unknown suspects.

He said Atif Munsif was returning from a funeral in a nearby village when the incident occurred.

Atif Munsif Khan contested elections as an independent and then joined the PTI. His father, Haji Munsif Khan, has also been an MPA and a former provincial minister.

District Police Officer (DPO) Umar Tufail told media that the attack was apparently carried out by unidentified men due to personal enmity.

DPO Umar Tufail said that the firing incident took place near Havelian and locals confirmed the presence of the tehsil nazim in the vehicle. He added that the vehicle caught fire due to heavy firing by the attackers.
