Two policemen martyred in attacks on census teams
PESHAWAR: At least two policemen were martyred on Monday in attacks on census teams in Lakki Marwat and Tank districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to police, the team was busy in census data collection in Parwala Village within the limits of Saddar Police Station in Lakki Marwat, when unidentified armed men opened fire on Constable Dil Jaan deployed on duty.
The funeral prayers of policeman Dil Jaan were performed with official honors at Police Line in Lakki Marwat. The body of been sent to his native village in Dera Ismail Khan when he will be laid to rest with official honors.
A large number of police officials including Regional Police Officer (RPO) Bannu, District Police Officer (DPO) Lakki Marwat, Deputy Commissioner, SP Investigation, Pakistan Army officers, Rescue 1122 officials and others attended the funeral.
RPO Bannu Region Syed Ashfaq Anwar paid tribute to the martyred policeman and expressed his condolences to the bereaved family. He said that the blood of the martyr will not go in vain, and assured that miscreants involved in the incident will be brought to justice. He vowed that such actions cannot demoralize them.
Meanwhile, in the Kot Azam area of Gomal in Tank, a policeman Khan Nawab embraced martyrdom and eight others sustained serious injuries.
The injured include police constables Shah Nawaz and Aslam Khan, Levies official Bismillah, Frontier Constabulary official Abdullah and driver Eid Jan.
The policeman received bullet injuries in an armed attack from terrorists on a police van deployed for the security of census staff in Tank’s Kot Azam area.
The injured officials retaliated and the attackers escaped from the scene. They were shifted to DHQ Hospital for medical treatment where their condition was stated as being stable.
