Lahore- Crackdown Targets Against Drivers Without Licenses & Helmet

In an effort to bolster road safety, authorities have initiated a rigorous crackdown on motorists found operating vehicles without valid licenses and helmets. Rigorous inspections are being conducted on major thoroughfares across the city, including Mall Road, Canal Road, and Jail Road, as per a recent announcement by Lahore Traffic Police on Twitter.

Furthermore, this crackdown has been extended to secondary roads such as Kahna, Nishtar, Raiwind, and others. Offenders will be subject to penalties, including verification of their licenses for non-compliance.

Back in January of this year, the caretaker government of Punjab initiated a series of strict crackdowns targeting underage drivers and individuals lacking valid driving licenses, prompted in part by a tragic accident claiming the lives of six members of the same family.

In response to this initiative, the Punjab government at the time not only introduced services like online license renewal and registration but also substantially increased the license fees by 1566%.

Renew Driving License Online

People can renew their licenses through the online system. The candidates can renew their licenses for one, three, five, and ten years. Meanwhile, an international driving license will remain valid for three years.

The masses can download their local and international e-licenses easily, the announcement said, adding that these candidates would no longer have to take physical driving tests.

To facilitate the people, traffic police launched an online service for the people. The groundbreaking decision aims to simplify and streamline the licensing process, considering the surge in the number of people applying for licenses in the region.

License Fee Increased by 1566%

The provincial government took a surprising move and approved a substantial hike in driving license fees for both cars and motorcycles, soaring from Rs. 60 to whooping Rs. 1000.

The controversial decision ignited a storm of criticism on social media platforms. Many citizens expressed their dissatisfaction, arguing that the timing of the increase seems incongruous, given that more motorists are complying with traffic regulations.
